I've fallen in love this February...with my paint color
Does anyone else feel like January was three years long and now February has gone by in the blink of an eye?! How is it already Valentine’s day?!
I've fallen in love this February & it's with my final paint color at the flip and I wanted to share the paint color selections with you! I find myself CONSTANTLY searching the web for neutral hues; I’ve found warm whites bring a space that cozy and comfortable / new age vibe everyone is wanting.
The old walls were pea soup green and salmon in color. Great for dinner, not great for decor. There was also a good amount of peeling wallpaper with dirty fingerprints. Honestly, I think a new paint job is so underrated. It transformed my space completely without having to spend money on replacing items, but instead, giving them a major facelift.
Before we get to my selection, I want to share a few secrets on how to select the best color for your space:
1. Find some inspiration in your closet
Do you typically dress comfortable or are you sophisticated head to toe? Are you usually in neutrals or do you like a pop of color? Take what you feel the most comfortable in on your body and translate that to the space you live in. If you feel like neutral tones are your safe place, choose a color like Sherwin Williams Alabaster or Greek Villa. If you pack more of a punch, throw in an accent room or wall using a shade of Tidewater or Alexandrite for fun. Explore your personality and allow it to flow into your home's design.
2. Maintain the theme
If you have thousands of photos pinned on your Pinterest board of Bohemian inspired spaces, don't stray away by adding a Nautical inspired space with dark navy, anchor accented, walls. STICK-TO-THE-THEME. You don't have to paint every single room the same color, but I suggest keeping them within the same family. Color wheels from your local paint store are so helpful for this because you can use the entire color strip to pull darker and lighter shades from the same pallet.
3. Samples, samples, SAMPLES
When you've narrowed it down to five or less selections, it's time for samples! Samples should always be put on multiple walls, with two coats. I suggest putting the samples in an area that has natural light as well as an area that has manufactured light, that way you can see how the color responds throughout different areas of the home. This is also when you should select the paint sheen you'd like, I tend to select eggshell for the common areas throughout a house with semi-gloss on all trim and doors, and flat on the ceilings.
So what did I choose and why...
My friend Cara had me over for dinner a few weeks ago. As I sat at the island with a glass of wine (stuffing my face with cheese and crackers) I started to eye all of the details of her beautiful home. When my eyes shifted from the couch, to table, to countertops and cabinetry ... I realized that everything was blended so perfectly together and the main reason; the paint color! I was drawn to the paint color. The perfect shade of greigey-taupe (not a word) that made the house feel so inviting and comfortable. It tied each accent detail back to the same theme, a neutral and comfortable traditional design.
I immediately decided to bring that color into the flip and I am so glad I did.
Drum roll please......
